KAST K2 Program Begins Competitive Season
Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 12:45AM This year’s K2 team of 10 first year athletes and 3 second year athletes recently participated in their first race of the season at Norquay on January 15th & 16th. This two day slalom race hosted by the Banff Alpine Racers Ski Club, saw approximately 150 racers take part in two, double run races. After experiencing a fairly long stretch of cold training days, athletes, coaches, volunteers and spectators were all very appreciative of the temperature inversion that settled over the Banff area for the weekend.
While athletes may have experienced some nervous anticipation of this first competition, they all experienced promising results, and skied with ambitious efforts on the second day. Congratulations to Georgia Willinger who placed fifth in the second day’s ladies slalom race, after experiencing a fall on the first day.
