What?
The Kinder Development program is designed for athletes looking for a challenging, fun and competitive environment. For the aspiring young racers in the family; our KD program serves as the ‘starting gate’ to training at the K1 and K2 levels for 11 to 14 year olds. The KD program includes dryland training in the fall (including a Gymnastics program) to acquaint these young skiers with the process of becoming a complete athlete. A full schedule of training and racing throughout the winter will keep your KD athlete active and engaged.
Where, When and How Often?
The KD program includes a dryland training program beginning in September that features Gymnastics, Ice Skating, Conditioning and Team Games.
On-snow training begins as soon as possible in early November and takes place on Wednesday evenings and weekends (both days most weekends). Variety is the key for the KD program and we will train and race at local resorts in Alberta and eastern B.C.
On-snow training runs from 9:00am to 3:30pm each day with a 45-minute lunch break. Evening training at C.O.P. runs from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
How Many Days?
The KD program includes approximately:
- 26 dryland sessions
- 43 weekend/holiday on-snow days
- 12 evening on-snow sessions
Where will we ski?
Training days at Nakiska and Lake Louise, evenings at COP and some race days at other hills.
In an effort to control costs, the all-mountain skills days have been scheduled at Lake Louise Ski Area. Lake Louise is available with Nakiska on the RCR 4-area season pass.
How often will we race?
KD’s will compete in 3 provincial two-day races (Jasper, Norquay and Nakiska) and 2 or 3 one-day races at local mountains (Lake Louise, Sunshine, Castle Mountain, etc.). The coaching staff will recommend participation in races to athletes as appropriate to their skill development.
Recommended Pass(es):
RCR 4-area season pass (Nakiska, Lake Louise, Fernie, Kimberley) and COP pass or discount card
Minimum Skill Level:
- KD's must be able to independently link parallel turns on blue and black runs (e.g.all terrain at Nakiska)
