Volunteering & Fundraising:
The success of any non-profit organization depends on the contribution of its members. The member clubs of NASA keep program costs low and quality high through fundraising and volunteer involvement and tries to have fun while doing so.
Did you know that only 50% of our costs are recovered from registration fees? Another 25% comes from Casino funding while the remaining 25% comes from our annual Live & Silent Auction fundraiser and other smaller fundraising opportunities throughout the season - grocery cards, calendar sales etc.
Support for a member club casino is simple: when a date is set by the Gaming Commission the club will send out a request for volunteers, club members just fill in the shift that works for you. A few hours spent helping staff the casino is all it takes. The next member club casino is scheduled for summer 2010.
Our Silent & Live Auction fundraiser, "The Black Diamond Bash" is a great social event held each season that brings in much necessary funding to the NASA organization. The date for this years gala is Thursday, November 5th at Heritage Park. As part of joining a NASA club each family is required to contribute to the Silent & Live Auction by purchasing tickets to attend the event and provide or solicit items for the auction. The success of the auction depends on attracting as many guests as possible – invite your co-workers, family, friends and neighbours for a great night out. When you purchase goods or services from local Calgary businesses ask if they would help support a great family oriented club - you'd be surprised at how much support you will receive for this great cause.
- For Nancy Greene families (NGD, KD), any combination of ticket sales ($40 each) and auction items that total $250 per athlete is required. Mini Meisters & NGI families are exempt from this obligation but we encourage you to participate and join the fun. It's a great way to meet new families and participate in the club.
- For Kinder & FIS families, any combination of ticket sales ($50 each) and auction items that total $500 per athlete is required.
- If familiy only does the minimum (above), however, we will not reach our goal of $40,000+ for this fundraiser. Every family is challenged to reach the following:
NATC/FIS: 6 tickets & $1000 in donations
KASC/K2: 6 tickets & $750 in donations
PART/K1: 4 tickets & $600 in donations
SARC/KD: 4 tickets & $400 in donations
SARC/NGD: 2 tickets & $300 in donations
SARC/NGI: 2 tickets & $100 in donations
SARC/Mini Meisters: 2 tickets & $50 in donations
- Email updates will be sent out to all families in the weeks leading up to the Black Diamond Bash to inform everyone of the financial progress to date. The more successful the silent auction, the fewer other fundraising projects will be required throughout the year to maintain and ultimately lower program costs in the future.
For families who register after the Silent & Live Auction, program fees will be increased by the minimum commitment above in lieu of your paricipation in the event. Fees will only increase for the NGD, KD, K1, K2 and FIS programs as the Mini Meisters and NGI programs are exempt from any Silent & Live Auction fundraising commitment.
